Bridging the gap between modern technology and old craft
Skin Collection by Jasser Studio’s consists of various desks, tables, cabinets and chairs. Handcrafted geometry seems to be the thread that links them all together. The Skin Collection lets people experience the aesthetics of the object with all senses.
The collection is created using new moulding techniques in combination with a laser cutter. All furniture pieces are created from hundreds of pieces of wood, glued, sanded and refined by hand. All pieces are created in the workspace of Jasser Studio. In this crafting process, a unique soul is given to each object, not one object feels the same. Something that can’t be derived from machine.
The geometric shapes in combination with the material and craft invites you to touch the objects. The handcrafted wooden tabletops tell a story of the wood, the structure, the smell, the pattern, it’s all part of this experience. To enhance this tactility even more, some of the designs from the collection are covered with exclusive material like leather. The designs are constantly breathing, reacting to it’s environment and touch; The touches of geometry.
“With the creation of objects with the push of a button, we are creating a world filled with cold, distant material that people don’t necessarily respond to” Jasser explains. “Designers should take more responsibility for the way tactility shape our products and surrounding. We should use technology as a way to enhance our craft, not replace it.”
